Now that it’s summer many of us reach for the frappuccino as a great way to cool down and have our coffee fix. But it is relatively easy to make at home. Here’s how.
What is Frappuccino?
The word frappuccino is a mix of two words, frappe the new England name for a milkshake and cappuccino an Italian coffee with frothed milk. It all started in a coffee shop called the Coffee Connection which was purchased by Starbucks in 1994. Frappucino is now a trademarked brand of the Starbucks Corporation for their line of blended coffee drinks served cold.
Making One at Home
To make a similar drink to the frappuccino at home you simply need one or two shots of espresso, three tablespoons of sugar, 1 to 1.5 cups of crushed ice cubes and ¾ of a cup of milk. For garnishing you may also want some cream and a syrup of your choice.
Quite simply you put all the ingredients except for the garnishings in a blender. You will need to blend for 30-45 seconds. For a thicker taste blend in cream rather than milk. If you really want to develop the technique then you can also purchase a frappuccino maker. Alternatively if you are using a blender it needs to be heavy duty to cut through all the ice. Also, if you are lactose intolerant a good alternative is to use coconut milk.
